Meet Dennis M. : Photographer

Backtracking a bit since my last entry, to the spring of 2009 when I met a new, young photographer who I found exciting, and a blast to work with! His name is Dennis M.

I feel Dennis has a different approach to his art. While working with him, I saw the inspiration happen every moment. For the engagement photos, he prefers us to meet with his clients, get a sense of who they are, and then we embark on an adventure of excitement and exploration to find the perfect locations. The result is incredible photographs and a day of fun and joy. Clients love him, and I think he is one of the most talented photographers in the Bay Area.
Cuban born, Southern Californian raised, and now he calls San Jose home. Check

What has Jim been up to??

Lets back up a bit to the summer of 2008:

My associate Darlene Carlson and I had the pleasure of working with Claudia Schiffer, Geri Halliwell, and Victoria Beckham. They were attending a friends wedding in Napa and Darlene and I got the job of doing these 3 beauty's make-up and hair. While Darlene was doing Victorias' make-up, I was discussing a new haircut with her. I asked if she had ever seen the classic 1960's movie "Rosemary's Baby" where in the middle of filming, Vidal Sassoon cut Mia Farrows hair in the classic "boy cut". 2 months later, Victoria was wearing that very hair style.

Moving forward from summer in to fall and winter: Weddings, weddings, weddings...and in December, The Debutantes Ball. Love those Debs!

January and February of 2009 was a little slow, but March brought the "Vera Wang Trunk Show" at the SF Bentley Reserve where my associates Darlene, Marc Tarasco and I did hair and make-up on the models. Fabulous show. Great turn-out.

In the Fall and Winter 2009 issue of SF Brides Magazine, the wedding of Caitlin Moran and Mark Lobosco was featured, showcasing my hair and make-up talents

Thanks to SF Brides Magazine for listing me in their vendor referral" column in the Fall and Winter 2009 issue......

....and again this year, in their 2010 Spring and Summer issue!

Welcome to Jim Avilas' Wedding Blog Page

My passion, purpose and intent is the same today as it was thirty years ago.
As a hair dresser, make-up artist and wardrobe stylist, I want every woman to not only look, but also feel confident, elegant, chic and sexy.

No matter if you are eighteen or eighty, how you feel inside is of the utmost importance!

What I do not want is for you to look like you were beaten up at a make-up counter and tortured in a hair salon.

I work with your fears, doubts, dreams and desires to present the best "you"!
Whenever you look at your photographs of that day, you will see nothing but perfection.

In this blog, you will see examples of my work, as well as tips, tricks, articles and good advice. Please feel free to send feedback to jimavila@mindspring.com
